Fridays
For Future
Fridays For Future is a global strike movement started by 16-year-old Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg who refuses to go to school out of frustration with the lack of Climate Action. As representatives for the youth generation in Oita Prefecture, with the support from Oita Prefecture communities, ECOS wants to take over this ideal, initiate Fridays For Future Oita, and call for action!
River and Beach Cleaning
ECOS regularly cleans the beaches and rivers in and around Beppu, collaborating with the KameKame Club, the environmental club of local farmers.
Firefly Watching Event
Every July, the Firefly Watching Event is attended by various locals, students, and professors. The cleaned surroundings give endangered fireflies a habitable environment to breed in, thereby increasing their population annually.
Eco-

Create and participate in various Eco-workshops conducted by local environmentalists that include making eco-friendly detergent, creating compost toilets, stardom at BGG, and learning how to make EM Bokashi, a natural fertilizer.

The week is based on the concept of Multicultural Week in APU, with several activities including upcycling workshop, cooking class, exhibition, movie screening and panel discussion with APU professors, and volunteering activities at local farms.
Eco - Komodo Club
ECOS conducts activities with elementary school kids of Oita prefecture to teach them about environmental issues, waste segregation, and eco-friendly methods for daily activities that they can implement in real life.
Collaboration with Local Environmentalists
ECOS organizes field trips to various locations such as the organic farms of local farmers in Oita Prefecture as well as a biomass recycling unit to learn from the local community through practical experience. ECOS APU also collaborates with Eco Blue every year to sell eco-products like bamboo straws and shopping bags as well as handmade detergents.
