HOME EXHIBITION

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

October – November are Beppu Art Months, but there is a unique art and photograph exhibition held by students.

In 2016, APU students who were passionate about art gathered and felt the need of circle of art. Therefore, HOME was founded and had their very first exhibitions in 2016 and 2017 but discontinued in 2018 due to internal problems. This year with a total of 15 members from different nationalities, after being postponed for a year, HOME came back with a theme of “SENSE” and a setting of living room that indeed created the HOME atmosphere.

HOME Art & Photography Exhibition

By opening their art submission for 1.5 month, not only APU students, but also alumni and various amateur artists did partake on submitting their pieces of artwork to be shown in the exhibition. During their first and second exhibitions, HOME was a popular platform and created hype amongst students to express themselves in the form of art.

This year, HOME was held near Beppu Eki Market from 6 – 10 November. On the third day of the exhibition, HOME introduced “Hearing” as a part of their show where people gathered, grabbed a few drinks, and socialized. This event was not carried out in the exhibition place, but in The Hell Record & Sour, Kitahama with free entry tickets! The purpose of “Hearing” event itself was social gathering and inviting number of people in the same time that cannot be brought to the exhibition due to number of people and event spaces.

Starting from mid-June HOME members had actively discussed about the concept, gathering members, and preparing the submission of artwork.

Despite HOME being an independent, self-funded student organization, it was part of Beppu Art Months hence funded by the Beppu City Hall. 70% of this year HOME budget was from city hall and 30% of it was gathered from the income of HOME special drinks.

Art not only by seeing, but by other Senses

Exhibition rooms are divided into 3 small rooms, with 2 rooms in the first floor and 1 room in the second floor. In the first room, you can get HOME special drinks that have a unique sensation from making to drinking and of course they charge you for the drink. The purpose of HOME special drink is so you can enjoy the art while drinking.

The messages were meant for those who were inspired to create their own exhibition. There were a lot of responses and feeling after the visitation of this exhibition. A few even were inspired to participate or even create their own exhibition in the upcoming year.

HOME held their exhibition annually, with the current core member is from 4th year. They were hoping the exhibition could continue to contribute in Beppu Art Months next year.
